Japanese Gardens for Today
Japanese Gardens for Today
David H. Engel
with a forward by Richard Neutra
1959 Second Edition, Charles E. Tuttle, Co., TokyoLarge quarto. Full brown cloth lavishly decorated in white, black, and gold to resemble the stone garden at Ryoan-ji. The endpapers are decorative rice paper. The title page and Frontis are combined in a two-page black and white bamboo motif with a full color tipped in plate to complete the feeling of a modern and ancient ensemble. The book is in NEAR FINE condition with a NEAR FINE Brodart protected dust jacket. This is one of the exceptional books out of Japan during this time that were at the very high end of book making design and craft. Adding to the fine text is the forward by Neutra that makes this book of an exceptional quality not likely to be equaled.
